# Friendship Update Available
There's a new update for your friendship. It installed itself while you were sleeping.
The terms are straightforward. You must be offended on my behalf to continue. Not optionally, not when convenient — pre-installed, always-on offense, running in the background like an operating system that never sleeps. Declining the update is not an option. The dialog box with the "remind me later" button was removed in a previous version.
This is how friendship works now. It used to be that a friend could tell you something that bothered them, and you could nod and move on with your lives. Now there's a service-level agreement. When something happens to me, you are contractually obligated to be at least as upset about it as I am — ideally more, because performance is being measured. Your outrage levels are tracked across devices. If someone's behavior drops below the required threshold, the system flags them for review by the group chat.

The update also includes scheduled outrage, mandatory quote-reply solidarity, and a new feature where any disagreement is automatically reclassified as a personal attack. Compatibility with having a normal conversation is no longer supported. Please stop asking.
Look, nobody designed this on purpose. That's the thing about modern outrage culture — it evolved, like a mold. Somewhere along the way, being aggrieved on someone else's behalf became a love language, and the subscription auto-renewed. The people most fluent in it aren't even mad about their own problems anymore; they're fully booked being mad about other people's, in advance, as a service.
But here's the thing the update notes never mention: you can read a terms-of-service agreement and still not sign it. You can decline the offense, keep the friendship, and save everyone the mandatory solidarity performance. The "offended on your behalf" requirement was always optional. It just needed someone to click the button nobody wanted to click.
So consider this your reminder that the friendship still runs fine on the old version — the one where people tell each other things, listen, and then go get dinner. No installation required. No reboot. No offended-on-my-behalf clause.
Install the update anyway if you want. But the download is 40 gigabytes and it changes nothing.
