France has introduced its newest parental control, and it applies to everyone.

Ahead of the October 24 demonstrations, Marseille banned all demonstrations and extended its city-centre curfew — previously a minors-only affair — to adults. Lyon, Nice and Montpellier banned protests that had already been declared to the authorities. Paris kept its nightly curfew around Place de la République and Les Halles in place until Monday morning, while authorizing a march from Bastille to Nation.

The crackdown followed the rioting and looting on October 17 and 18. The government said the priority was the restoration of public order; after a security council meeting, President Emmanuel Macron said the general recommendation was that there should be no demonstrations in the coming days, with only union-organized marches authorized.
