Kamala Harris is back on the campaign trail. Joe Biden is not on it. That is the whole story, and the whole joke.
Harris has returned to campaigning for Democrats in some of the tightest midterm races, putting the party's unsuccessful 2024 standard-bearer back before voters as she weighs whether to make another run for the presidency. She has not decided yet — but the trail, apparently, has decided for her.
Biden, meanwhile, has been largely absent from the campaign trail and has made few political appearances this year. The last president is nowhere on the schedule. The candidate voters rejected last time is everywhere on it.

This is the Democratic bench, introducing itself: the comeback tour is underway, the last nominee is nowhere to be found, and the party is calling it momentum. The amnesia is the platform. The trail is the press release.
